I love the church.
I love it despite our imperfections. I love it even during the malfunctions in worship. I love it even though misguided intentions often get us side tracked. I love it in spite of our various disagreements. I love it when I watch people love and support each other. I love it when people’s lives are transformed and healed. I love it when we people pray together. I love it even when we fall short. I love it when we are faithful. I love it in the midst of tears. I love it when the sound of laughter echoes. I love it despite the brokenness and disillusionment it has caused. I love it when it has been an agent of reconciliation and peace.
I love the church because I love Jesus – and the church is, in its own amazing, miraculous, mysterious, and peculiar way, the body of Christ. We are a collection of souls in Christ who demonstrate everyday our bond in and our need of grace from God and each other, and our total dependence upon God for our salvation and deliverance. The authentic church is not a community of excellence or an organization of perfection, but a family of love – a family seeking love, receiving love and attempting to share love.
Indeed, I love the church!
May we strive together in this love of Christ!
